How does Botox work?

Botox is a well-known beauty treatment giving excellent, quick results when delivered by a skilled doctor. It involves the use of a very small amount of a botulinum toxin to reduce wrinkles and fine lines or treat muscle-based issues.

Although Botulinum is a potent toxin, in the very small dose found in Botox, it is considered extremely safe and is well tolerated.

Botox is a naturally occurring toxin which, when carefully administered in micro doses relaxes the muscles in your face to smooth out wrinkles and lines, like forehead creases, and crows feet.
It is not permanent, but must be administered by a medically trained professional for the best and safest results.

It can be tempting to take the cheaper option & go to non-medical or unlicensed salon’s but doing so can greatly increase your risk of complications and bad, sometimes permanent results.

Quick Facts about Botox Injections

How long do Botox Injections take?

The entire injection procedure takes approximately 10-20 minutes. Before your procedure appointment, you will have an initial consultation with Dr. Wagner to discuss your goals & create a treatment schedule that will best meet your needs.

How quickly can I expect Results?

You should already begin to see results within 48-72 hours of your treatment, with more dramatic results developing over the next one to two weeks.

What downtime should I expect?

Prior to getting Botox, we advise that you do not drink alcohol, particularly, red wine.
Try not to eat foods containing garlic as an ingredient, and do not use anti-coagulant medications (unless prescribed and taking a course of treatment, in which case, this should be discussed with Dr. Wagner during your initial consultation.) This also includes Vitamin E supplements.
After your treatment, it is advised to avoid high impact exercise that can raise your blood pressure. This increases the chances of bruising.

Do not lie down for a couple of hours after treatment, however, we strongly encourage to use the muscle groups you were treated. This helps ensure that the Botox nicely immerses in the areas where it is injected.
You can return to your daily routine immediately following your appointment, just take a break from your workout routine for the day.
